sketch challenge #34-42

Hi all

I know. I know. I'm really really late. But that doesn't mean that I'm gonna be giving up on this sketch challenge yet. I did make up for it though.  Instead of paper and pencil, I thought that I should try out my new Wacom Cintiq 13 HD tablet.  It's a bit hard to get used to, since i usually don't use a tablet, but I have to say, this is actually a bit easier than drawing on pencil and paper and then taking a photo of it with my phone and adding it to the blog. Plus I figured that this might be more clear for everybody to see the sketches. Anyways, here's the images. First one is a drawing of a young woman. I've added a couple of light shadows. I probably should've gotten in more details though. Then again, that's probably something I need in all my drawings. Heh. The second drawing is a bird's eye view of a chipmunk.  I thought I'd give this a shot since I never really practice this technique much when drawing objects in a birds eye view.  Not bad, but I guess it could use a bit more work.  Next drawing is an image of a snake and a horse.  I drew this as a way of the snake passing the Chinese new year lantern to the horse, since the horse is Chinese zodiac animal of 2014. Heh. Gung Hay Fat Choy! Heh. I got lazy when it came to the legs of the horse though, but you probably noticed that already. Heh. Anyways, started to run out of ideas for drawings since part of the challenge was to make an extra sketch for a week that I missed.  So I drew a cat playing with a tassel, or to some yarn strings. Next, since I'm technically year of the rat (because even though I was born on the year of the ox, I was born before the animal changed, which was year of the rat), I drew a picture of a rat eating a rice cracker sitting next to a fortune cookie.I was going to write something on top like "Happy Chinese New Year!" or something, but i got lazy and moved on to the next drawing since I had 4 more to go...Ah well. The next sketch is a Chinese lion Dancing costume.  I thought this might've been a good challenge since i usually don't really draw objects with too many details like those costumes.  Well, now I know that I'm capable of drawing it. Heh. Alright, it might not be as good as it should, but I'm ok with it. Heh. The next 2 drawings has a boy and a girl in horse costumes.  The boy holds the scroll that says horse in Chinese, while the girl has a sparkler in her hand as she watches the fireworks.  Alright, maybe it wasn't a good example to have a child holding a sparkler, but if it makes you feel better, I was originally going to have the boy hold firecrackers. Heh. Anyways, The last drawing is a picture of a fish jumping out of the water.  I've previously drawn a fish similar to this, but I thought that it was time for the fish to have a makeover. Heh. Ah well. Enjoy!

sketch challenge #29-33

Hi

Ok. I really need to get back in the game when it comes to this weekly sketch challenge. Ok so for the first sketch, I thought that I'd focus on clothing, so I drew a woman in Victorian clothing.  I wanted to focus more on the clothes so I decided to draw her from behind.  Next, I drew an image of a squid for a creature drawing.  I think I should've worked more on the tentacles though, either that or shading.  Third drawing is a hippo in the river.  I drew the whole body of the hippo first, and then added the scenery.  I shaded in the water so it would appear that parts of the hippo was sticking out of the water, such as parts of the head and the back of the hippo.  The next sketch shows a puffin.  I started out drawing realistic, but then it just turned into a cartoon drawing. The last drawing is a reindeer.  I thought the last 2 drawings could be something christmas/winter themed since it's december and the winter season. Heh. Ah well. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #24-28

Hi all!

Sorry for the late posting. I've been hit with a big project for my freelance work.  Finally caught up after buckling down on the project for the last couple weeks.  Anyways, here's the sketches for this weeks as well as the last 4 weeks that I've missed. So since I've pretty much missed the whole month of october, I thought that it'd be a good idea to make the sketches look like a scary/Halloween/haunted theme.  The first sketch is a demonic looking bat hanging upside down from a tree.  The second sketch is a scarecrow with a crow cawing on his shoulders.  I kinda had this idea after seeing that movie "Jeepers Creepers" on tv.  The third sketch is a mutant tape worm about to eat the innocent people, who just happen to notice the creature.  Inspiration for this sketch comes from the movie "honey, I shrunk the kids". yeah, I know. It doesn't really count as a scary movie, but i thought that I'd give it a shot in a sketch. Heh. The fourth sketch is a cat in a jack-o-lantern preying on a rat, but the cat is unaware of the pumpkin being alive preying on the cat.  The fifth image is a demonic girl. Yeah, I know she doesn't look scary.  I probably should've tried though. Ah well. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #23

Hi all,

Ok, for this week's challenge, I thought I'd try something new. So I decided to draw a buff/strong man, since I barely draw guys or male figures. Heh. So here's a pic of a strong, somewhat overweight male, and somewhat evil looking. I was kind of thinking about comic book characters (and maybe Dragonball Z) while I was drawing this. Heh. I'm always up for a challenge by the way. So if you have an idea for me to sketch, feel free to leave a suggestion in the comments and I'll do my best. =) Anyways, Here it is. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #22

Hi

For this week's sketch, I thought I'd try drawing a reptile. Ok. Well, it started out as a reptile, but then turned into a snake. Then drew a mouse since there was more room on the paper and a simple background. Yeah... I should've added more details... Ah, well. Maybe next time. Heh. Enjoy!

sketch challenge #21

Hi all

Ok. So for this weeks challenge, I thought it'd be best if I stick to my word and do a more figure/realistic drawing instead of the usual character/cartoony drawings that I'm used to. Heh. So for this week, I drew a pic of a girl/woman with sunglasses and wearing a sun hat. Didn't really have time for shading, so I did the best i could. Heh. I really should work on time management though... Ah well. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #20

Hi

For this weeks challenge, I thought that it was best to work on figure drawings. Well it started as a figure drawing, but then it turned into a creature/fantasy drawing. So it changed into a mermaid. Heh. I tried to make it look somewhat realistic. I guess I just gotta work on shading and realistic drawings more. Heh. Ah well. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #18-19

Hi

Okay. Okay. I know I've been a bit late when posting for the sketch challenge. Work and freelance work has taken a lot out of me. Heh.  And there's the job searching as well... Anyways, here's my sketches for the week 18 and 19.The first sketch is a squirrel, but more in a cartoon kind of form.  But you've probably already noticed that. Heh. The next sketch is a sketch of a fish who sees a hook with a sign that says "For Rent" Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #14-17

Hi all,

Sorry for the super late posting. I guess comic-con took too much energy out of me. Heh. Well, that and catching up with work and freelance work. Heh. Ok. Anyways. So, in case you don't know, I've made a promise to myself to produce at least one sketch per week as a sketch challenge.  But if I ever forget to post something for the week, then I will have to create an extra sketch to go for that week.  So, since I pretty much missed 3 weeks, I've had to produce four sketches in total (1 for this week, and 3 for the past three weeks that I've missed). Ok anyways. The first sketch, I thought about trying to sketch out a realistic turtle, or some sort of turtle creature. Yeah, I think I need to work on shading more. And maybe more details on the shell. On the second sketch, I drew a cartoon tiger.  I was actually inspired by a tiger drawing that Chris Sanders (Creator of Lilo and Stitch) actually sketched for a customer at comic-con.  For my third sketch, I thought I'd try drawing a fox in a weird cartoon form.  I honestly can't think of the term at the moment. Heh. Ah well. I'm sure I'll remember later. Heh.  Anyways, for the fourth sketch, I was thinking about doing a more detailed creature drawing of a mermaid, but I got lazy and ended up drawing an anime version of a mermaid with the seagull from "Finding Nemo," who is saying "mine!" Anyways.  Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #13

Hi all!

For this week's sketch challenge I thought what better way to celebrate Comic-Con than by drawing something related to Comic-Con. So I decided to draw the Flash.  Plus, one of my friends requested a sketch of the Flash, as well as some other super heroes. Heh. I decided to show one of the super hero sketches.  I'll probably get better references of super hero outfits at the Comic-Con convention, even though some super heroes have so many different versions of their outfits over the years. Heh. Ah well. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #12

Hi

So for this week's challenge, I thought I'd focus on a side view of faces, since I don't really draw faces from a side view. Heh. I have to admit, I did struggle a bit, although I don't think that I did that bad. I was also trying to think of something that she could be looking at. First idea was a bird, but then I decided to go with a butterfly, since my client from my freelance work asks me to draw butterflies most of the time. Heh. Although I did get lazy while drawing the butterfly, but that was probably noticeable. Oh well. Here goes. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #11

Hi

Ok. So I decided that for this sketch, I'd draw something a bit different than a creature. So I drew a woman, or actually a woman's face. Heh. I was aiming for a natural look. I think I need to work more on noses though. I also ran out of time on shading. Maybe, if I have time, I'll try and add shading and textures on Photoshop or something. Ah well. Here it is. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #10

Hi all.

So I thought that after the first attempt of a creature drawing, I thought that this might be a sign for more practice on creatures.  Plus, I thought that sketching out creatures will be good for my portfolio, especially for concept artist jobs. Heh. ok. Anyways. Here's my second attempt at a creature drawing.  This is a sketch of a giant octopus against man.  Okay. Okay. It might look more like a giant octopus's baby, but it still looks bigger than the man.  And yeah, I probably shouldn't have gone lazy with the man and should've been more detailed with the man like I tried with the octopus. Ah well. Maybe next time, I'll try and be more equally detailed in my sketches/drawings. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #09

Hi all!

For this week's sketch challenge, I thought I should try something different. So I've decided to go for a creature.  I thought this was a pretty good challenge, just because my drawings seem to be more simple and creature drawings are more detailed and realistic. So I took a shot.  I don't think it looks that bad. What do you think? Thanks!

Sketch Challenge #07-08

Hi all.

Sorry for the late posting. Been busy with the whole job searching and research.  I've forgotten how hard the job market and economy has been lately.  Anyways, as promised, since I missed last week, I have added two sketches to this post.  In case you have forgotten, the sketch challenge was that if I have forgotten to create and post a sketch up for the week, then I will have to not only create a sketch for that week, but an additional sketch for every week that I miss. The first sketch is a little girl looking out of a window.  The second sketch started out as a creature sketch but somehow turned into a big eyed puppy/wolf/husky. Heh. Well. Enjoy!

sketch challenge #06

Hi all,

For this week's challenge, I couldn't really think of what to sketch, so I decided to sketch out an outfit I was wearing in a dream.  It's not an outfit that I usually wear ( I'm usually the t-shirt and jeans type of person). Heh.  In my dream I was wearing some sort of 70s outfit: big white hat with a baby blue dress over a white long sleeved flared shirt, a giant black belt, and white leather boots.  For some reason, I'm always wearing more fashionable clothes in my dreams than the clothes I usually wear in real life.  Ah well. Maybe this sketch will give you a better description of what I'm talking about. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #05

Hi all

Here's sketch #05 for the sketch challenge. This time, I thought I'd try a comedic sketch. So I thought it might be funny to draw someone who thinks that the artist is going to paint her beauty but doesn't realize on how much of an expert the artist really is. Wait. Did that make sense? Ah well. Here's the sketch #05.

Sketch Challenge #04

Here's my sketch for week 04 of the sketch challenge. For this week, I've decided to draw somewhat of a self portrait of myself but kinda in an anime style (since I'm more used to drawing anime style than figure/life drawing, Heh.) . I'll try and do more figure drawing poses in the future of this sketch challenge. But for now, I've decided to give myself a break and draw something I was more comfortable with. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge #03

For this week's sketch, I've decided to sketch something more relaxing. Well, ok, that and for the crazy weather that's been going on lately. For the really hot and sunny days, all I could think about was ice cream and fishing in a pond (Why? I honestly have no idea.). So it was either fishing or sketch an image of ice cream. So, I drew a person fishing on a deck at a pond on a hot summer day. I also drew some fishes and seaweed in the water. Enjoy!

Sketch Challenge - Week 02

Ok. Here's my drawing for week 2 of the sketch challenge.  This time I thought I'd try focusing more on figure drawing and less in anime style. So in this sketch, I drew a person near a bird.
